I published an article in Lyon Mag on urban district cooling networks — an energy infrastructure that Lyon has been developing for decades, yet remains largely unknown to the general public.
Unlike the proliferation of individual air conditioning units, pooled cooling networks produce refrigeration energy at scale, distribute it through underground pipes, and cool office buildings, hospitals and public spaces with a far better energy balance. A lever for efficiency and urban governance in the era of climate adaptation.
